About Senamile Sishange: A Journey Through Art and Emotion
Senamile Sishange is not just an artist; she is a vessel for raw emotion, a creator, a dreamer, and an unapologetic lover of life. With over five years of experience as an interior designer and entrepreneur, Senamile has honed her craft and created spaces that speak to the soul. But it is through her art that her heart truly reveals itself.
Born and raised in the vibrant yet challenging streets of Soweto, Senamile’s journey began in a traditional Zulu family, where the rhythms of rural life intertwined with the hustle of the city. As the only child for many years, she grew up in the embrace of her father’s love and wisdom, moving frequently from one place to another. These constant shifts shaped her; they left her with a deep connection to the notion of “home”—an idea forever in flux, yet always deeply cherished. The act of hoarding, a subtle form of self-protection, became a part of her, a way to hold on to the fleeting moments and memories she feared might slip away. To this day, it lingers—tears are shed when she must part with a piece of her work, yet with each piece sold, she finds peace in knowing it will bring joy to another’s life.
Senamile’s art is born from a place of vulnerability, of quiet rebellion against the pressures to conform. It is an invitation to embrace the little joys we often hide away, afraid of being judged or misunderstood. Her pieces celebrate those moments of pride and defiance—emotions often too delicate to share. With each stroke, Senamile captures the beauty of the human experience, woven together with pain, love, loss, and the profound wisdom found in the messiness of life. She channels the heartbreak of failed relationships, the scars of lost loved ones, and the quiet strength that emerges from it all.
Her art tells the story of resilience. It speaks of the void left by those we’ve lost, the unspoken sorrow that lingers long after the world moves on. The loss of her beloved uncle, in particular, has left an indelible mark on her soul, yet Senamile finds solace in the strength of the love she’s known. For her, love is both a sanctuary and a powerful force that drives her forward. It is the love from her father, unshakeable and boundless, and the love she now experiences through the birth of her son, a gift that has saved her in ways words could never fully express. In her eyes, love is the most precious gift—a force that transcends time, pain, and grief.
Through her art, Senamile hopes to create spaces of healing and connection. She wants her work to speak to the heart, to provide solace, understanding, and peace. More than just a visual experience, her art is an invitation to reflect on your own journey, to embrace your story in all its beautiful complexity.
Senamile believes that in this life, we must choose love—despite the heartaches, despite the challenges. And through her art, she hopes that you will find the courage to do just that.

In her words –
My art is a quiet rebellion—a collection of little excitements we hide away, afraid that they might be judged, or that we won’t be deemed “cool enough” to share. Those tender joys, soft whispers of the soul, that we tuck away in the shadows of our hearts. Yet through my work, I invite you to discover the pride of these moments—those sacred truths that not everyone dares to feel or show.
Born from a tapestry of lost loves, I paint from the depths of heartbreak, but still, I love with a fullness that can’t be measured. Yes, there are scars, etched deep in the fabric of who I am, yet my heart is never untainted. Within the layers of color and form, you’ll find pain—the kind that cuts to the core, the pain of losing those we hold dear, the ones we will never see again. It’s the kind of grief that makes me whisper, mhlaba (ka)wunoni—the earth does not grow fat with the ones we have lost, those we continue to bury in our hearts. The many losses I’ve known have stained my soul, but none as deeply as the death of my uncle.

.

And yet, I am blessed. I am blessed by the ones who still walk beside me, who still fill my life with love. The birth of my son has saved me in ways that words can never fully capture. He is the reason I wake, the reason I live, and at times, the reason I would lay down everything. In him, I’ve known love so pure, so unconditional, that it mirrors the love my father has for me—a love that has never wavered. As his firstborn, I was showered with a love unmatched, a love that has shaped the very core of who I am.
And to my mother – Thank you for sacrificing all else even yourself so we can grow up and have better opportunities, I love you Ma.
Though I grew up without much, I was rich in love, spoiled in a way only a daughter could understand. It’s this love that has made me who I am—a lover of life, of people, of moments—and despite the trials, I continue to choose love. Always.
Through my art, I hope you find a place of solace, a moment where you are truly seen. I hope you find meaning, a sense of peace, and above all, the greatest gift of all: the gift of love. For I know what it is to give my heart completely, and I know the quiet joy of being loved in return. For I know what it is to love another with everything in me, and I know what it feels like to be loved in the same capacity.
So, let this art be an experience. Let it resonate with your soul. Let it remind you that love, in all its forms, is the thread that connects us all.
Enjoy the experience.
